Face-off for the most popular league in Finland
Yesterday, Finland’s most popular league started as the top domestic hockey league, Liiga, had its opening matchday. Telia holds the rights to the league in Finland and Sweden, which means that games can be watched on MTV Katsomo in Finland and on TV4 in Sweden.
In Finland, ice hockey is the undisputed favorite sport and attracts viewing interest from more than one third of all 15-74-year-olds in the country. Consequently, Liiga is it the most popular league, with roughly 20 percent of the 15-74-year-olds in Finland interested in watching the league. This is presented in Mediavision’s latest Sports analysis. The hockey season is underway in the rest of the Nordics as well. Denmark’s top domestic hockey league, Metal ligaen, started its new season last week. In Norway, the first game of the new EHL season is on Friday, while Sweden’s top domestic hockey league SHL starts next week.

Australia plans social media age limit
Australia plans to introduce an age limit for children using social media, citing concerns over the impact on mental and physical health. However, the move has sparked criticism from digital rights advocates, who warn it could push harmful online activities into less regulated spaces. Australia’s prime minister Anthony Albanese has announced that his government will conduct an age verification trial before implementing the new age restriction law later this year.
The prime minister has not specified a specific age for the law but said it would likely be between 14 and 16 years. If the law is passed, Australia would be one of the first countries to enforce such a restriction. Previous attempts, including made by the European Union, have failed following complaints about reducing the online rights of minors.
In Sweden, video viewing on social media has increased massively over the past years. During the second quarter this year, social media had a combined daily video reach of roughly 30 percent in Sweden, spread across the services Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok. Compared to the same period in 2020, this figure has increased by more than 150 percent.
With the increasing viewing and influence of social media, Mediavision is producing a brand-new analysis, focusing on social media and ad-funded online video. Elisa launches benefit program
Yesterday, the Finnish operator Elisa launched a new benefit program for its customers. The new program aims to reward customers for bundling their services and subscriptions, as well as long-term loyalty. According to Elisa, the program is developed at the request of customers and is unique among operators in Finland.
“With the Elisa Benefits Program, we want to introduce a new way of recognizing our current customers and rewarding them for long-term loyalty, as well as for bundling their subscriptions and services. We want the customer to feel that they are getting the best benefits by joining our benefits program,” says Karolina Baszarkiewicz, Chief Customer Officer at Elisa.
The program is open to all Elisa customers with a billed subscription, such as phone or broadband services. The program consists of three tiers: Silver, Gold, and Platinum, and is determined by the customer lifetime and the monthly billing amount. A variety of rewards, such as discounts, free rental movies and products, are offered and increases as customers move up the tiers.
