TV 2 extends Champions league rights in Norway

 

In Norway, the coming three years for the international football tournament Champions League has been decided. The league is staying at its current rights holder TV 2 which was revealed during yesterday’s Champions League broadcast.

 

“We are experiencing enormous interest in the Champions League, and we look forward to further developing this fantastic football tournament on our platforms. This is a big day for us at TV 2”, says editor-in-chief and managing director Olav T. Sandnes.

 

 

TV 2 has had exclusive rights to broadcast Champions League in Norway since 2021, and the new agreement covers the coming season and lasts until the summer of 2027. All matches from the tournament will be available on TV 2 Play. In addition, two matches a week will be shown on the channel TV 2 Sport 1. In Denmark, Finland, and Sweden it is still unclear where the upcoming seasons of the Champions League will be broadcasted.

Disney’s password sharing crackdown to begin in June

 

Disney Plus is taking action against account sharing this summer. In an interview on CNBC last Thursday, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger stated that Disney will be launching its first real foray into password sharing in June. The initial launch will be “just a few countries in a few markets”, followed by a full rollout in September. Iger did not specify which countries or markets the initial launch will cover. Disney Plus’ terms and conditions already include rules against sharing account credentials, however, this will be the first time the company chooses to enforce them.

 

 

 

The news mean that Disney will follow Netflix, which rolled out its password sharing crackdown broadly in May last year. Netflix executives have credited the account-sharing initiative for its recent boost in subscriber numbers. Netflix’s “paid sharing” is now functioning in over 100 countries.

The Masters kicks off tomorrow

 

The first major golf championships of the year is taqkaing place this weekend, the Masters in Augusta, Georgia. This it the 88th tournament and it is played from Thursday (tomorrow) through Sunday, when the final round is held. The tournament has a number of traditions, such as the previous champion hosting the dinner before the tournament, as well as the classic green jacket which is awarded to the winner.

 

From the Nordics, Viktor Hovland from Norway, currently ranked 6th in the world is participating. Swedish Ludvig Åberg, ranked 9th in the world, will make his Masters debut, as well as the Danes Nicolai Hojgaard and Thorbjorn Olesen, ranked 38th and 72nd respectively.

 

 

In Norway, the Masters can be viewed on Discovery, Viaplay broadcasts the tournament in Denmark and Ruutu in Finland. In Sweden, public service broadcaster SVT recently announced the acquisition of the rights for the so-called “world feed”, which means they can show four to five hours of golf from Thursday to Sunday. This broadcast comes without the extra material of “featured groups” which follows specific players, and “featured holes” which shows specific holes throughout the tournament. The broadcasting rights for this extra material in Sweden has been picked up by Viaplay.

 

Golf has a relatively low viewing interest in the Nordics. Last year, close to one million 15-74-year-olds stated interest in watching golf via TV/online video. TikTok to launch several new apps

 

Last month, the US House of Representatives voted to ban TikTok unless its corporate parent company sells the app within six months. In the wait of how this turns out, the Bytedance-owned social media service is both planning and launching new apps.

 

First out is the new app called Tiktok Lite, which already has launched in France and Spain. Tiktok Lite is very similar to the original but comes with one difference: Users can earn points for watching videos and doing other activities within the app. Points can then be redeemed for gift cards or TikTok’s ‘coins’ – which can be spent on tipping creators. Reportedly, the app is launched to boost growth in Europe. In Spain and France, TikTok Lite is only available for users 18 years and older, with an age-verification process the first time a user tries to claim rewards

 

 

Another new app from Tiktok which is rumored to launch soon, is an Instagram competitor called Tiktok Notes. During the past weeks, TikTok users have been getting notifications about the new app, on which they will be able to share photos. The notification says that the company is soon launching “a new app for photo posts” called TikTok Notes and that users’ existing photo posts will be shared on the app. Users can also choose to not share their image posts to the new app. TikTok has confirmed that the app is in development.

 

TikTok is reportedly also experimenting with different formats of apps, such as 30-minute videos and even text-based social media like X and Threads.
